Nursery & pre-school map

Finding childcare usually means a council list and a lot of phone calls. This map plots 27,973 nurseries and pre-schools from Ofsted's childcare register, with each one's inspection outcome, so you can see what is actually near an address.

What the map shows

Turn on the Nurseries pin for every childcare provider operating from non-domestic premises in England — day nurseries, pre-schools and nursery classes. Tap one for its Ofsted outcome and a link to its report.

Why childminders are not on the map

Ofsted registers about 60,000 childcare providers, but roughly 32,000 of those are childminders and home childcarers working from their own homes. Ofsted redacts their names and addresses for personal safety, and mapping people's homes would be wrong even where a consented-address list exists. This map deliberately shows only providers on non-domestic premises.

Inspection outcomes

Ofsted grades early years on the same five-point scale as schools, so a nursery reads the same way: curriculum, achievement, behaviour, welfare, inclusion and leadership, plus whether safeguarding standards were met. Providers inspected before the current framework show the older overall-effectiveness grade instead.
