About Housing Map

Housing Map is an independent, non-commercial project that puts the official data about a UK neighbourhood on one map — so you can see what a place is actually like before you move there.

Who makes it

Housing Map is built and maintained by one independent developer, working solo and unaffiliated. It is not owned by an estate agency, a property portal, a housebuilder or a housing association, it takes no funding from any of them, and it carries no advertising. There is no company behind it and nothing is being sold.

Email reaches a person directly, usually within a few days: [email protected]. Corrections are welcome and get fixed — if a figure here looks wrong, it is worth telling us, because the same error is probably visible to everyone else too.

Why it exists

The information that tells you most about a neighbourhood — how much of it is social housing, what gets reported to the police, how loud the roads are, what people actually pay per square metre, how good the schools and nurseries are — is all published openly by government. It is also scattered across a dozen departments in formats most people cannot open. Housing Map does the joining up and gives it away.

What it will never do

No tracking cookies, no login, no paywall, no lead generation, and no selling of your search history. The map does not know who you are and does not try to find out. Everything shown is open data you could download yourself; the methodology and sources pages show exactly how.

Is it free to use?

Yes, entirely, and the underlying figures are downloadable as a CSV under the same Open Government Licence the source data uses. If you cite it, a link back is appreciated but not required.
